What to expect

If you've never been to therapy before, it's natural to feel unsure. Here's how it works.

  • We start with a conversation You get in touch by phone or email. We'll have a brief chat about what's going on and whether I'm the right fit. No pressure, no commitment.
  • The first session is about you We'll talk about what brought you here, what you're hoping for, and how you'd like to work. You set the pace.
  • Sessions are 50 minutes We meet weekly, either in my practice in Ranelagh or over Zoom. You can switch between the two whenever you need to.
  • Everything is confidential What you share stays between us. I'm bound by IACP ethical guidelines and fully insured.
"I believe therapy should feel practical and supportive. You should leave every session with more clarity than you walked in with."
— Rita Geoghegan

About Rita

I've worked in psychotherapy, occupational wellbeing, and community mental health across Dublin for more than two decades. I set up Croia Counselling because I wanted to offer the kind of therapy I believe in — unhurried, practical, and built around the person in front of me.

I have a particular interest in mid-life transitions, workplace burnout, grief, and helping couples find their way back to each other. But honestly, most of my work is with people who are just going through a hard time and need someone steady to talk to.

"I became a therapist because I saw how much it helped when someone simply listened properly. That hasn't changed."

Things people often ask

I've never been to therapy before. Is that okay?
Of course. Many of my clients are coming to therapy for the first time. We'll take it at your pace, and there's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with.
How do Zoom sessions work?
You'll receive a secure link by email before your session. All you need is a private space, a decent internet connection, and ideally headphones. Many of my clients prefer Zoom for the flexibility.
How long does therapy take?
It depends entirely on you. Some people come for 6-8 sessions to work through something specific. Others stay longer for ongoing support. We'll check in regularly about how things are going.
Can I switch between Zoom and in-room?
Absolutely. You can choose the format that suits you each week. Many clients mix both depending on their schedule.
What's your cancellation policy?
I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations are charged at the full session rate.
Do you work with companies?
Yes. I offer wellbeing programmes and return-to-work support for organisations. Get in touch to discuss what would work for your team.
